duality and non-duality

“An experience means duality!”

For years I am busy with concepts as duality and non-duality.

I understood that Patanjali belonged to a duality concept.

And Prakritti and Purusha where the basis.

And Advaita Vedanta was more a non-dual concept.

Everything is One.

But according to the following text this is what really lightened up my brain

“An experience means duality!”

In the Hatha Yoga Pradipika I was reading on page 415:

As long as you have a nose you can smell but if your mind is in disorder you cannot understand the smell.

If you have eyes you can see the form, but if your mind is not in order, you cannot understand the form.

If the senses and the mind are both withdrawn, and the ego is withdrawn, and duality in the form of “I”, “You”, “he” and “she” is withdrawn, then time, space and object do not exist.

“In the yoga sutra’s from Patanjali is dit rung 5 Paratyahara (terugtrekken van de zintuigen) van het achtvoudige pad (ashtanga yoga). Dit is de voorbereiding voor Samyama. Samyama is de verzamelnaam van het laatste gedeelte van het achtvoudige pad. Het is dharana(concentratie), dhyana(meditatie) en samadhi(realisatie). Hier ligt is een duidelijke lijn tussen lichamelijke ontspanning voelen in meditatie of door het terugtrekken van de zintuigen de ervaring van de ware stilte en meditatie”  

When time, space and object do not exist, where is an experience?

The basis of our experience is the mind, but mind cannot have an experience unless it can have the notion of time, space and object. If you withdraw the concept of time, space, mind becomes dull. For an experience there has to be the interaction between mind and the object.

For an experience, there has to be an interaction between mind and space, mind and time.

There is another important thing.

Time, space and object are not independent. They are categories of the mind. If there is no mind there is no time, space and object.

Then where is the knower?

The knower cannot be known.

When salt is put in water, it completely dissolves. It completely and totally loses its identity.

An experience means duality!

For an experience there have to be two objects- the experiencer and the object of experience.

Where there is only one, who is going to experience whom?
